Project: Scratchleys Restaurant Extensions

Scratchley's Restaurant extension and redevelopment extended the existing building west over the disused seaplane port, the extension included a new patron dining area and expanded the kitchen facilities, increasing space and comfort for both patrons and staff.  This project posed a myriad of environmental, safety and management challenges. The goal was to construct a building over water in a zone with constant flow of pedestrian traffic along the adjoining walkway in front of one of Newcastle busiest roads and maintain a fully functioning restaurant at the same time.  With the successful completion of this project PDA Building received the excellence in construction 2017 OH&S award and the excellence in building 2017 award for projects between $2 million – $5 million presented by Work Cover Australia and Master Builders Association.

Project: Telerah Public School

This Project incorporated, ground and foundation stabilisation works, general external repairs and renewal works (eaves and gutters), internal refurbishment to create open plan teaching spaces, enclosure of verandas, construction of new deck area, full re-wire, full replacement of air conditioning system, new lighting and fan system, redecoration, new flooring, general services upgrade and repairs throughout.

Project: Garden Suburbs Early learning Centre

Project: Alec Rice Centre

PDA Building was approached by our long-standing client of 20 years to constructs a 3-level multidisciplinary medical centre in The Boulevarde Toronto, this presented tight and limited site access to a busy street and pedestrians. This Building has 2 levels of underground parking extending to all boundaries which created significate challenges of underpinning the adjoining multi-level building prior to the deep excavation that was required for this project. To protect the environment a water filtration system to clarify and adjust the PH level was implemented to deal with the large volume of rain and seepage water collected on the site, PH samples where undertaken and logged prior and during each discharge to maintain environmental standards, in recognition of the site difficulties, quality of construction and high standard of finishes PDA Building received the 2015 excellence in building award for projects over $5 million by the Master Builders Association.

Project: Hunter Valley Private Hospital (HVPH)

The project involved a three story extension to Hunter Valley Private Hospital (HVPH) at Shortland. The substantial addition and upgrade to the existing hospital involved the cooperation between the client and builder to include cultural, colour and textual references to the nearby wetlands. 

The extension will allow HVPH to increase its capacity by 70% with the addition of 35 new beds and two new state-of-the-art operating theatres. The project also includes a new dedicated medical ward, an expanded same-day surgery area, a new Central Sterilising Unit, additional consulting suites and a new car park. The project was named ‘Heads Up’ as the clients intended the project to allow the hospital to become a landmark building and a leading healthcare facility in the region.

Project: Lingard Private Hospital

This project involved the addition of two theatres and a new CSSD to Lingard Private Hospital owned by Healthe Care and located at Merewether, the project is valued at over $15 million. The addition was constructed in the centre of the hospital which created unique challenges and required the use of cranes. The client intended the additions to increase the hospitals capacity to meet the community’s needs and aging population. Having worked for Healthe Care on previous projects including Maitland Private Hospital, PDA Building were invited back to undertake this addition. PDA Building are currently completing Stage 3B and 4 of this redevelopment.

Project: Macquarie Inn at Club Macquarie

The project involved the construction of Stage 1 of Macquarie Inn at Club Macquarie. The Hotel is situated on a former bowling green that is linked to the existing Club. The first stage involved the construction of a two story building encompassing thirty-six rooms that sits adjacent to the existing building and overlooking Cockle Creek. The Inn was intended to allow the client to diversify its existing market and cater for a range of patrols such as businessmen, conference delegates, sporting groups, families and wedding parties. Due to this the construction included four levels of accommodation.

 
PDA Building had previously worked closely with Club Macquarie over fifteen of years on a range of projects including extensions and alterations on the original building. Due this strong working relationship and PDA Buildings performance the company were invited to construct the new Macquarie Inn. The quality workmanship of PDA Building on this project is evidenced by their being awarded the 2008 Commercial Projects Two to Five Million Dollars Master Builders Award.

Project: Settlers Ridge Estate - 28 Home Development

Project: Warren Crosby and Sinclair Office Refurbishment

The project involved the extension of the existing Crosby Warren and Sinclair Offices in Warabrook. In addition to the interior refurbishment a series of sunshades were fixed the exterior of the building creating a unique appearance and effectively cooling the building thus lessening their carbon footprint. PDA Building was originally invited by the client to sit in on the design brief to inject buildability into the design of the project.

Project: Weeronga Hostel and Narrabri Nursing Home

The contract incorporated alterations and additions to two nursing homes. Both sites received the addition of ten beds. The extension Weeronga Hostel at Wee Waa also included the addition of a kitchen facility and laundry whilst Narrabri Nursing Home received a new office administration centre. Four years earlier PDA Building had constructed a ten bed hostel and new kitchen facility at Narrabri. Due to the aging community within the area and consequently the increasing demand upon the nursing home the Whiddon Group decided it necessary to extend the facility. Pleased with PDA Buildings’ performance on this project, the company was invited back to perform the next stage and also to bring their newly acquired Weronga Hostel up to the high standard of the Whiddon Group. As both facilities were operational during the construction period of the project PDA Building worked closely with the client to ensure that the negative impact of noise and dust upon residents were mitigated.
